Dr. Mrityunjay Singh Honored with Two Prestigious Awards from the American Ceramic Society 

CLEVELAND, Ohio, June 12, 2025 – Parallax Advanced Research and the Ohio Aerospace Institute are proud to announce that Dr. Mrityunjay Singh, chief scientist of OAI, received two prestigious honors from the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) recognizing his contributions to the fields of advanced materials, engineering ceramics, and global scientific collaboration.  ACerS recently announced a new award that will bear his name, the “Mrityunjay Singh Bridge Building Award”, and they have also selected him as the recipient of the “2025 Rishi Raj Medal for Innovation and Commercialization in Ceramics”.    

Honoring International Scientific Leadership  

The “Mrityunjay Singh Bridge Building Award”, recognizes individuals outside of the United States who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in engineering ceramics and international collaboration. This marks the inaugural year of the award, which was established by the Engineering Ceramics Division of the society, and honors Dr. Singh’s achievements and far-reaching influence in ceramic science and technology, as well as his leadership and dedication to mentoring and global outreach.

The selection criteria focus on two pillars: (1) contributions to the field of engineering ceramics and its commercialization, and (2) impact on international visibility, advocacy, and mentorship in the discipline.

Recognition for Innovation and Commercialization  

Dr. Singh will also receive the “2025 Rishi Raj Medal for Innovation and Commercialization in Ceramics”. Sponsored by a donation from Dr. Rishi Raj, this medal is awarded annually to recognize a member of the ceramics and glass research community for exceptional discovery or invention(s) that can lead, or have led, to innovative products and/or processes.  

Dr. Singh will be recognized at the ACerS Honors and Awards Banquet during the 127th Annual Meeting, taking place Monday, September 29, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio.   

In response to these achievements, Dr. Singh said, “I am deeply grateful and honored to receive these recognitions. I would like to thank my family, colleagues, and collaborators for their support and encouragement over the years. I could not have done this alone.”   

A Career of Pioneering Contributions  

Dr. Singh is an internationally acclaimed expert in advanced materials and manufacturing technologies, with more than 95 national and international awards to his name. His work in ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) has revolutionized both aerospace and ground-based systems, with a lasting impact on NASA missions and industrial applications worldwide.  

With a career spanning more than three decades, he has contributed to space shuttle repairs, thermal management, multi-material integration, eco-friendly manufacturing, energy storage technologies and additive manufacturing. He has edited/co-edited 55 books and proceedings and authored/co-authored over 300 peer-reviewed research papers.  

Dr. Singh is a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society, ASM International, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the U.S. National Academy of Inventors (NAI), among others. He has received NASA Public Service Medal, NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal, Silvery Snoopy Award, and many other recognitions from NASA. He has also been awarded three honorary doctorates and numerous honorary and distinguished life memberships. He is a Past President of the American Ceramic Society and currently serves as the President of World Academy of Ceramics, Italy.
